Extended Itinerary Ideas

Build a trip around the Wedding!

Traveling to Vietnam can feel both exciting and intimidating. There are so many things to see both in and around Vietnam, and in nearby countries, that it may be hard to even decide how to organize your trip. We are so happy to help brainstorm the right trip for each of you.

Extended Trip to Vietnam

Take time to explore to the other parts of Vietnam like the capital, Ha Noi in the north of Vietnam, and the beautiful landscape of Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh, Ha Giang and Sapa. Or the middle of Vietnam, where you can see the Imperial Hue City where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled Vietnam for 143 years. You can also visit the ancient town of Hoi An, and the golden bridge in Da Nang. You can also enjoy the beaches on Phu Quoc island, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, and many more.

Mekong River Cruises (Vietnam & Cambodia)

There are several companies that offer river cruises on the Mekong River from south to north (or north to south) Vietnam, and some include Cambodia as well. You can easily start one of these cruises before or after the wedding and have a very rich and care-free experience. https://www.vikingrivercruises.com/cruise-destinations/asia/magnificent-mekong/2025-hanoi-hochiminh/index.html

Vietnam & Singapore

Singapore is a perfect stop on your way to Vietnam. There are direct flights from Newark to Singapore, and from there you can spend 2-3 days in the city where "Crazy Rich Asians" was filmed.

Have a meal at Anthony Bourdain's favorite Hawker Center https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_vZc9Io32s .

It's easy to book a driver to visit the major sites like Gardens by The Bay, Little India, China Town and Arab Street. For a real treat, book a night at the Marina Bay Sands and take a swim in the famous infinity pool (that's the spot where Jake proposed!). It's just a short 2-hour flight to Ho Chi Minh City from there.

You can return the same way, or choose another stop on your way home (or vise versa).

Vietnam & Thailand

Another perfect combination is Thailand either before or after Vietnam. Thailand is very famous and becoming popular in recent years, especially Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Pattaya.

At Bangkok, you can visit the Grand Palace which was built in 1782, and was the home of the King and royal family for 150 years. Inside the Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew temple is the Royal temple, the only temple in Thailand to have no monks. Wat Pho temple with the huge 43-meter sliding-Buddha. Or shopping at Siam Paragon, Siam Center. Last but not least, you can visit the night market in Chatuchak.

If you're a nature lover, Chiang Mai is a perfect place for you. You must go to Doi Suthep Hill. This hill is believed to be a sacred place, carrying much significance to Buddhism and the history of the ancient kingdom of Lanna. The Old town in Chiang Mai, or Pa Dung village near Chiang Dao cave area is home to Karen people, also known as the “long neck” tribe.

And beaches in Thailand are also trendy, such as Koh Samui, Phuket, Koh Phi Phi

Vietnam & Indonesia (Bali)

Bali, the Jewel of Indonesia!! The flight time from HCMC to Bali is just under four hours, and well worth the trip to visit this magnificent island in Indonesia. We can recommend resorts either on the beach in Seminyak or in the central part of the island around the monkey forest in Ubud. There are easy and structured day trips all over the island that you can arrange through these resorts.

At Ubud, you can walk through monkey forest, or explore the way local people grow rice at Tegalalang Rice Terrace, try the swing there if you're a photography enthusiast. Visit Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu temple where Balinese bath in the lake to pray for blessings. Penglipuran Village is a traditional Balinese village.

Kelingking beach, Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong, Handara Gate, and Ubud Market are all worth a visit as well.

Tokyo is a natural place to visit if you choose to travel to Ho Chi Minh City through Tokyo. There are direct flights from Tokyo to just about anywhere in the U.S.. Even a few days in Tokyo on either end of the trip can be wonderful. A day trip to Mt. Fuji is a real treat.
